SUMMARY:Spring Litter Pluck at Hamilton Road
DESCRIPTION:Everyone is invited to join in a community litter pluck on Saturday\, May 4th\, from 9am until noon\, which will take place along Hamilton Road. Parking is available at a bungalow colony located on Hamilton Road\, just 300 feet from Forestburgh Road. \nGarbage bags will be provided and volunteers can simply leave the bags for the Town to pick up after littler plucking. Please wear comfortable\, sturdy shoes and brightly colored clothing. \nJoining the litter pluck is also a great chance for people to discover what it’s like to adopt a road. The Town Adopt-a-Road program is officially underway. Individuals\, groups of people\, businesses\, and other organizations can adopt a road for free. Once adopted\, the road should be litter plucked at least once per year for a two-year period. The Town then provides a custom sign on the road that announces which group has adopted it. Roads are adopted in stretches that are no longer than 2 miles. For details about Adopt-a-Road or questions about the litter pluck\, please contact: \nJamie Ferriero\, Town Parks and Recreation Department\nCall: 845-434-7303\nEmail: jferriero@townofthompson.com

SUMMARY:Free Shred Day: Safely Dispose of Personal Documents
DESCRIPTION:Spring Shred Day is scheduled for Saturday\, May 18th from 9am until noon. This day is an opportunity for residents to safely and securely dispose of documents containing personal information. Shred Day takes place in the parking lot of the Town of Thompson Town Hall (near Home Depot). \nShred Day is free for Town of Thompson individuals. There is a limit for each person and business of 2 large (legal size) boxes. These boxes can contain documents that they would like destroyed through a secure shredding process. The Town asks that you please respect the 2-box limit\, it will be strictly enforced so that all individuals can utilize this free service. \n“Shred Day is a chance to be proactive and protect you\, your family\, or your business from the threat of identity theft. Once your documents are securely shredded\, they’re recycled so you’re also doing a great thing for the environment. We hope many residents come out for Shred Day to take advantage of this free service made possible through the work of Town Board\,” said Town of Thompson Supervisor Bill Rieber. \nWithout shredding and carefully disposing of documents\, identity thieves may target you. They often sift through trash or recycling bins seeking out documents that have not been shredded. According to a recent U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) report\, there were 24\,248 cases of identity theft in New York State – and that number is on the rise. New York State ranks #13 in states with the most incidents of identity theft.
