Anthony J. Rein serves as the Town Assessor for the Town of Thompson and is responsible for the valuation and assessment of all real property within the municipality. In this capacity, he administers the Town’s assessment program in accordance with New York State Real Property Tax Law, ensuring that property assessments are fair, accurate, and equitable for all property owners.

Mr. Rein was appointed by the Town Board in 2025 and serves a six-year statutory term commencing October 1, 2025. As Town Assessor, he oversees the preparation and maintenance of the annual assessment roll, supervises property inventory and valuation updates, and ensures compliance with assessment standards established by the New York State Office of Real Property Tax Services.

Mr. Rein brings professional experience in real estate valuation and property analysis to the position. He holds New York State certification as a Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser and has extensive training in accepted appraisal methodologies, market analysis, and property data evaluation. His professional background supports the accurate and consistent valuation of residential, commercial, and vacant land parcels throughout the Town.

In addition to maintaining property records and administering assessments, Mr. Rein is responsible for administering state-authorized property tax exemption programs, including those available to senior citizens, veterans, agricultural properties, and other qualified property owners.

The Assessor’s Office serves as an important resource for residents seeking information regarding property assessments, property records, and exemption eligibility. Mr. Rein works with property owners to provide guidance on assessment procedures and the annual grievance process, during which taxpayers may request a formal review of their assessments before the Board of Assessment Review.
